Are you interested in gaining practical experience in the public sector while expanding your understanding of City government? District 10 is seeking an intern to join us for 8 weeks for approximately 8 hours each week.
We’re seeking someone who demonstrates a strong work ethic, interest in public service, and a commitment to good government. Additionally, candidates must be able to responsibly handle the professional communication needed to serve an elected official.
We’ve developed an administrative-heavy program suitable for any applicant with interest in the following:
- How the different branches of local government interact
- What various City departments do
- How the local level legislative process works
The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be the all-important, frequently complicated, and supervised task of scheduling for an elected official. You’ll learn about the various people a Council person meets with and why; as well as about the various official roles the Council person takes in Committees or on Boards.
We’ll work with you to develop a scope of work that includes what YOU want to learn from this experience.
This position requires a person with basic administrative skills that will be sharpened and enhanced by working in the D10 office. These skills include:
- Ease with technology and software programs such as: Outlook Email and Calendar; Zoom
- A professional and friendly demeanor
- An ability to hone in on details and be careful and thorough
This position will be for 8 weeks (3 days a week / 8 hours per week or approximately 64 hours total). The intern will receive a stipend of $1,500.00.
