HISTORY
Streetcars, City Beautiful, and East High
City Park sat a mile outside town when it opened, reached by competing trolley lines; farmers and squatters settled the blocks first. The 1893 Columbian Exposition inspired Denver’s City Beautiful push, and the 1925 arrival of East High School (Denver’s first high school) drove rapid development, with Colfax Avenue growing into a commercial spine through the 1920s.
