HISTORY

From the confluence to LoDo’s revival

Denver was founded in 1858 at the confluence of the South Platte and Cherry Creek. The railroad’s 1870 arrival made Lower Downtown the city’s commercial heart until the 1893 Silver Crash. Designating the 1400 block of Larimer as Denver’s first Historic District in 1973 sparked a revival that, by Coors Field’s 1995 opening, had turned “LoDo” into one of the city’s liveliest neighborhoods.
