Starting June 7, District 10 residents will see important upgrades to Denver’s light rail system that will improve safety and reliability for years to come. Councilmember Chris Hinds has supported this next phase of the Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, which focuses on rebuilding worn-out tracks and stations downtown.
The work covers the Downtown Loop Midblocks and Colfax Avenue corridor, including full track replacement on Stout and California streets between 14th and 19th streets. It also includes upgrades near Colfax Avenue and the Auraria Campus, improvements to the Cherry Creek Bridge crossing, and station enhancements at Colfax at Auraria. Many parts of this infrastructure have been in use since the light rail system opened in 1994. Construction will continue through early 2027 and will bring temporary lane closures, sidewalk detours, and some night work. RTD is working to keep at least one traffic lane open and maintain business access and pedestrian routes during construction.
To support riders, RTD will suspend the D, H, and L light rail lines starting June 7. The C Line will return, and a new T Line will launch. Bus service on routes like the 16th Street FreeRide and Route 43 will also increase to help people get around. Councilman Hinds encourages residents to check RTD’s website for maps, updates, and service changes to plan their trips during construction and thanks the community for their patience as these vital improvements are made.
